divine design.

candice olson. you may know her from her popular show on hgtv, 'divine design'. it is one of my favorite shows and i always watch, not only for her immaculate designs, but for the impressive renderings. she seems to go into a poorly designed (or not designed at all) room, do a few quick sketches that would take me days, throw together her materials & samples and get to work! half an hour and some hilarious moments later, the room is complete and looks amazing. she has a talent i can only hope will come to me with time. i strive to throw together a room with such candor and strength the way she can. who knows, maybe one day i'll have my own show on hgtv - we have the same last name, that has to count for something, right?

richard cable interiors

richard cable interiors - huntsville, alabama.
asid (american society of interior designers) hosts a week every year called "real world design week" where registered interior design students are able to shadow a registered interior designer. i chose to shadow richard cable of richard cable interiors in huntsville, alabama. i had heard horror stories of this day from my friends who had done it in the past (with different interior designers, different firms) saying they felt in the way, it was boring, they felt awkward, etc. so i went into this feeling a little concerned. however, they made me feel so welcome! richard and his team welcomed me into their showroom with loving arms and open minds, fielding my millions of questions as best they could, and giving me new energy to finish out my studios and become what i have always wanted to become - an interior designer.
if you get a chance, check out richard's portfolio on his website.

he does great work and right now has about 18 different projects going on! i can only hope when i have my own firm (cross your fingers and your toes) that i will be as blessed and successful (and good!) as he is.

kelly wearstler

kelly is a distinguished interior designer - best known for her take on the luxury market. i love the way she styles residential projects, and commercial, making them both feel upscale, modern & traditional, and whimsical with pops of color at the same time. she has written countless books, and been featured in even more.
what i would give to be as successful as her when i get out of school.....

i love these chairs. they are used in many of her projects, in different textiles, variations and colors. my favorite is the mustard colored leather with a cocktail table, covered in a beautifully simple white linen.

this is just fun. the stripe down the center of the chair plays off the mauve and taupe colors in the wall texture. i don't know if i would want this in my house... but i definitely love the look!

design blogs

ATTN:

everyone needs to follow a few blogs that i absolutely love. they were the ones that started me on my love for blogs, and i owe my interest and passion to them.

1st - a schematic life blog. written/created/designed by an interior designer based out of vancouver, michelle has the best blog out there. her renderings are amazing, and make me want to learn and practice, daily. she has youtube videos that show how to render, and i follow and study those like it is my job. i love her blog, and think everyone who has an eye for design will, too.
