hermes

hermes. widely known for their beautiful handbags and scarfs, this company is a leader in the luxury market. originally based out of paris, france, hermes has taken control of this global market and pushed it to areas we never expected - like india.

my education in interior design has focused on many cultural issues and regions, all over the world - and currently we are focused on INDIA. we each got assigned a "luxury good" - chanel, louis vuitton, gucci and hermes. i was assigned hermes, and i am so excited i was. our project is to design a store for our luxury good within the booming city of new delhi, india. it is an overwhelming project, that we will present to the dean of our college, amongst many others once it is finished, but i am at the point right now where i am having fun with it!

below are a few images, most of you will recognize (the infamous scarfs) and a few you might not - india's ad campaigns involving elephants, which are a sacred symbol in their culture.

stay tuned because i will post photos of my work (as it comes along), but for now enjoy the beautiful and colorful images! ta ta for now....

richard cable interiors

richard cable interiors - huntsville, alabama.
asid (american society of interior designers) hosts a week every year called "real world design week" where registered interior design students are able to shadow a registered interior designer. i chose to shadow richard cable of richard cable interiors in huntsville, alabama. i had heard horror stories of this day from my friends who had done it in the past (with different interior designers, different firms) saying they felt in the way, it was boring, they felt awkward, etc. so i went into this feeling a little concerned. however, they made me feel so welcome! richard and his team welcomed me into their showroom with loving arms and open minds, fielding my millions of questions as best they could, and giving me new energy to finish out my studios and become what i have always wanted to become - an interior designer.
if you get a chance, check out richard's portfolio on his website.

he does great work and right now has about 18 different projects going on! i can only hope when i have my own firm (cross your fingers and your toes) that i will be as blessed and successful (and good!) as he is.

kelly wearstler

kelly is a distinguished interior designer - best known for her take on the luxury market. i love the way she styles residential projects, and commercial, making them both feel upscale, modern & traditional, and whimsical with pops of color at the same time. she has written countless books, and been featured in even more.
what i would give to be as successful as her when i get out of school.....

i love these chairs. they are used in many of her projects, in different textiles, variations and colors. my favorite is the mustard colored leather with a cocktail table, covered in a beautifully simple white linen.

this is just fun. the stripe down the center of the chair plays off the mauve and taupe colors in the wall texture. i don't know if i would want this in my house... but i definitely love the look!

studio drams

studio. to anyone who has been in a studio, or is currently in a studio as a student - god bless.

because it is nearing the end of the semester, our amazingly perceptive teachers picked up on the idea that we were just a wee-bit stressed. so, amanda (my residential instructor), set up a "hit the pinata"- party day!

in the past we have had field-day, too... which was a great way to relieve all of our stress. below are pictures from the both - just to give you a taste of how crazy/wonderful everyone in my studio is, and why i stay.... because without them i would probably have no hair by now.

my other half in studio. don't know what i would do without you!

we have fun and soak it all in when we can.

the BEST studio. ever. period.

"it's your spec book! it's your construction documents! it's the NOLA project!"

"beat that bitch!" - our instructor, peek

find potter. we won :)

light light light

lights. who really thinks about them as a statement piece? i do. anytime i walk into a space, i look at the light fixtures. if they are just recessed cans, i study the baffle, the trim piece, the reflectors, wonder what type of lamp is in there - is it an MR16, a PAR30? why does my mind work like this? it's all thanks to melanie duffy, my instructor of cahs 3100: lighting design.

i have learned more this semester than i have in any other class. light is more than just illuminance - it affects your health.

check out these amazing light fixtures that really do make a statement.

design blogs

ATTN:

everyone needs to follow a few blogs that i absolutely love. they were the ones that started me on my love for blogs, and i owe my interest and passion to them.

1st - a schematic life blog. written/created/designed by an interior designer based out of vancouver, michelle has the best blog out there. her renderings are amazing, and make me want to learn and practice, daily. she has youtube videos that show how to render, and i follow and study those like it is my job. i love her blog, and think everyone who has an eye for design will, too.

2nd - interior divine. a fun, beautifully simplistic blog that offers inspirational images almost daily. i come to this site when i need intrigue and ideas. her photos and interiors are JUST my taste :)

visit those and tell me what you think. i'll post more later!

modern dining

i love modern style. a few projects ago, we designed a home in new orleans and could design it however we wanted, essentially. so i went with fun, modern and comfortable.

this chair is exactly what i am talking about. for the dining room, i selected this fun take on a classic tulip chair, making it bright and wonderful with the chartreuse lemon-lime burst of energy.
manufacturer: west elm

pair that chair with this classic table from restoration hardware, coupled with an eclectic chandelier that has texture and it's perfect.

renderings.
currently in my residential class, we are designing a home for a couple who will "age-in-place" - aka a retirement home. we had to spec their current furniture, which is not my style, and work around her ideas and likes. this gives me a new point of view into the work-world... but strangely i enjoyed the project. below is the floor plan. i will post more pictures later, once they're completed :)

rendered first floor - mediums used: marker & colored pencils
